Campus Police Mission Statement

The Walsh University Campus Police Department is a comprehensive full-service police department that exists to serve and protect our students, faculty, staff and guests. Our mission is to provide a safe and secure living and learning environment by actively partnering with the campus community. As such, we take a proactive and progressive approach to campus policing, utilizing a community policing model in dedication to the protection of life and property; the preservation of peace, order and safety; the enforcement of local, state, and federal laws as well as university policies and procedures.

The department recognize that learning occurs both in and outside of the classroom and is committed to supporting student's academic and co-curricular experience by helping them make good decisions about the activities they engage. We understand the importance of developing positive relationships with students so that we can effectively serve, mentor and educate them.

We, as a department, pledge to treat all persons with respect, dignity, integrity and compassion; to respect diverse social and cultural customs and values, to protect individuals and their rights, to uphold the law, and to strive for excellence in every service that we provide.

Service Philosophy

As members of a student-centered campus, we make the commitment to provide friendly, knowledgeable customer service and assistance in support of the University's shared vision, values, and strategic outcomes.

Staff

Campus Police officers provide campus coverage 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  The staff consists of sworn law enforcement officers who are certified by the Ohio Peace Officers Training Council. The officers have full arrest power, are armed with weapons, and are able to provide all necessary police services on the University property.

As sworn law enforcement officers, Campus Police is qualified to use appropriate force in life threatening situations. The "Use of Deadly Force Policy" appears in the Campus Police Department manual and can be reviewed by consulting the Chief of Campus Police or the Vice President for Student Affairs/Dean of Students.
