Sometimes the best Walsh memories don't happen at Walsh but happen because of Walsh.
That was the case with me, when I decided during my freshmen year to study abroad. As a biology major, with a minor in Spanish, I knew I wanted to go somewhere that would help me hone my Spanish. I also thought it would help me decide what path I wanted to take in the next three years.
I got so much more than I bargained for when I committed to spending over a month in Costa Rica, as part of the School for Field Studies (SFS) program.
From the moment I made this decision, it was a major leap of faith. I am originally from North Canton and grew up not far from the Walsh campus. Deciding to travel to Costa Rica would not only be my first journey abroad, it would be my first trip away from home.
What a first trip! Not only was Costa Rica a beautiful, amazing country, but I learned so much about myself. I learned that I was capable of traveling independently, living away from home, and enjoying all of those moments. My month there helped make my future a little clearer as well. I plan to finish out my undergraduate degree at Walsh, and continue my education to at a graduate school where I will receive my master's in public health, and become a physician's assistant.
I also realized that there is a whole world out there to be discovered, enjoyed. Thanks to Walsh, I was able to have one amazing experience. I look forward to many more!
