Walsh University’s Doctor of Nursing Practice/Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (BSN to DNP-ACACNP) program allows students to expand their scope of practice to meet the health care needs of the acutely ill adult and elderly patients. Graduates of the BSN-DNP-AGACNP program are prepared to practice at the highest level of advanced nursing practice with a focus on patient care within complex acute health care environments. Integration of scientific knowledge grounded in evidenced-based practice, systems leadership, quality improvement, ethics, health care policy and advocacy, and effective use of health care technology and data management equip graduates of the BSN-DNP-AGACNP program to take leadership roles within health care systems.

  • Online coursework with scheduled on campus requirements.
  • Learn from faculty who are current in AGACNP practice
  • Advanced simulation lab for hands-on ultrasound guided experience in acute care procedures. Simulation exercises conducted with high fidelity mannequins.
  • Opportunity for clinical elective in a medical or surgical subspecialty
  • DNP Project with a focus on quality improvement and utilization of current research and evidence-based practice to improve outcomes for the acutely ill patient

Why Walsh?

  • Experienced faculty and small classes assure individual attention and encourage active participation.
  • Online format makes it convenient for students throughout Ohio and beyond.
  • A focus on clinical practice provides our students with critical hands-on learning opportunities.
  • Each student is challenged to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to meet client needs in a variety of health care settings, all while maintaining a grounding in Judeo-Christian values.

In many institutions, advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs), including Nurse Practitioners, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Certified Nurse Mid-Wives, and Certified Nurse Anesthetists, are prepared in master's-degree programs that often carry a credit load equivalent to doctoral degrees in the other health professions. AACN's position statement calls for educating APRNs and nurses seeking top systems/organizational roles in DNP programs.

The baccalaureate degree program in nursing, master’s degree program in nursing, and Doctor of Nursing Practice program at Walsh University are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education
