Password Reset

Passwords are integral to your campus life and work at Walsh University.  Most of our systems utilize Single Sign On (SSO) which allows the user to use the same username and password across systems. This also requires frequent password changes and a strong password to keep your academic and personal information secure.

When, admitted as a student, or first hired you will receive a username and a default password. You MUST set up your self-service password and change your password BEFORE doing anything else. (This process does not apply to Alumni or Emeritus faculty – see instructions below link to them if you can) Instructions are below;

Password Requirements

  • Password length - minimum of eight (8) characters, which includes three (3) of the four (4) following characteristics.
    • At least one upper case alphabetic character (A-Z).
    • At least one lower case alphabetic character (a-z).
    • At least one numeric character (0-9).
    • At least one punctuation or symbol character (@, $, #, etc.)
  • You CAN NOT REUSE your last 12 passwords
  • New password CAN NOT INCLUDE your first name, last name or username
  • Passwords that are based on common dictionary words such as Password, Football, Baseball, ABC123, etc. are not permitted.
  • Passwords will EXPIRE every 90 days

Changing your Password from the default:

  • Go to https://portal.office.com
  • Log in with your Walsh email and the default password you received
  • Update Your Password The current password is the default password
  • Enter your new password following the requirements above
  • Enter the new password again
  • Click Sign In

Registering for the Self Service Password Reset:

  • Once you have changed your password you will be prompted for More Information.
  • Follow the prompts to set up your own Self Service information – this includes a phone number and alternate email address where you will receive a code to change your password.

Resetting your password: 

  • Go to https://portal.office.com
  • Enter your email address
  • When asked for your password, click Forgot My Password under the login area
  • Enter the captcha characters, you can use the arrows to the right to get a new one if you can’t read it.
  • NOT REGISTERED YOU WILL RECEIVE a screen More information is required, click Next and follow the prompts.
  • REGISTERED you will be asked which method you want notified with the code to continue to change your password.

Unlocking your Account:

  • If you log into portal.office.com and lock your account.
  • Click on Forgot My password
  • Choose the option I know my password, but still can’t sign in to have it unlocked
  • You will still be sent a code to have it unlocked by a method you choose.
  • If you are not registered and lock your account
    • Please call the help desk at 330-244-4357 to have your password reset.

Alumni and Emeritus Faculty will follow the instructions below:

Changing your Password from the default:

  • Go to https://passwordreset.walsh.edu
  • Log in with your Walsh username (no @walsh.edu) and the default password you received
  • Choose walsh.edu in the domain dropdown and enter the picture letters/numbers  NOTE: use the blue arrow to change the picture until you can read it
  • Click Login
  • Enter the default password as your OLD PASSWORD.
  • Enter your new password following the requirements above
  • Enter the new password again
  • Click Save

Registering for the Self Service Password Reset:

  • If you have not logged into passwordreset.walsh.edu, log in first (see bullet 2 under Changing your password from the default)
  • Click Enrollment on the top left of the screen
  • Choose a security question from the dropdown
  • Enter something you will remember that is 5 characters or more and is case-sensitive
  • Repeat the above 2 more times for the next 2 questions.
  • For the 4th questions enter your own question and answer. The answer must be 5 characters or more and is case-sensitive.
  • Click Save
  • NOTE what your questions are and answers, you will use these to unlock or reset your own password.

Resetting your password: 

If you have registered with your security questions:

  • Enter your username (no @walsh.edu) and choose the walsh.edu domain
  • Click Next
  • Answer your security questions
  • Click Next
  • Enter a new password (remember the guidelines above)
  • Click Save

  • Click Next
  • Answer your security questions
  • Click Next
  • It is Unlocked! Proceed to login to a service
