Professional Experience

Learning becomes more meaningful when students put classroom applications to the test in real life experiences. Our Communication Department offers you two "real world" learning options that can give you the competitive advantage with potential employers.

Practicums

Communication Practicums allow you to apply the knowledge and skills you've gained in your Walsh communication courses to specific activities which earn you academic credit toward your degree. For example, communication students interested in Corporate Communication may earn practicum credit for working in the University Relations Office, Sports Information Department, or other departments on campus. Helping out with the student-run Walsh University newspaper, The Spectator, can help you refine your writing, editing, and graphic design skills. Unlike at larger universities, all Walsh students (including first-year, transfer, and part-time students) can get involved in co-curricular activities such as the student radio station (88.3 FM, WCAV) and newspaper as soon as they arrive on campus.

Media Internships

Media Internships are available for academic credit to third- and fourth-year students. Walsh's 100 percent placement rate for interns since 1993 reinforces our commitment to helping you gain the professional experience you need to excel in your job search and career. For many of our students, internships result in permanent positions upon graduation.
